As a fellow carb-lover, I was ecstatic to come across the #GirlsWithGluten hashtag on Instagram. Since my feed used to be filled with everything wellness, like green smoothies and salads, I was relieved to see images of girls actually eating like real people.

People are hash-tagging pictures of themselves eating pasta, pizza, burgers and everything extra carb-licious in an act of revolt against fitness gurus who “never” eat anything unhealthy. The hashtag started with an Instagram account of the same name and features submissions that use the hashtag, as well as pictures of celebrities who enjoy eating normal and hearty food.

Various celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Anna Kendrick, Sofia Vergara and more have been featured posing and eating foods that would never be allowed on a crazy diet and I am all for it! No one is perfect, and any person who tells me they can stick to a diet without having a cheat meal that’s not a big bowl of pasta, or a giant pizza, is a liar.

We are all so caught up in having the perfect body and showcasing our perfect lives on social media that we easily forget people like seeing real people. We like to know that we are not alone, and following this hashtag has made me feel a lot better about having McDonald’s after a night out.

Don’t get me wrong, being healthy is extremely important, but so is living your life and if you want to eat three slices of cake, then eat three slices of cake! Don’t let anyone stop you from eating as many carbs as you want, and the next time you do, remember to use #GirlsWithGluten. Move over green smoothies and buddha bowls because it’s the year of gluten and we love it!
