Looking for a healthy, affordable breakfast or lunch option in the CBD? Let me introduce you to Wild Sprout, a new eatery that recently opened on Loop Street that is serving up all sorts of superfood nibblies your body will love.
Wild Sprout is a new spot created by Candice Coles and Bryan Walter who wanted to provide a space where conscious eaters could find something delicious, whether they are vegetarian, vegan, or steering clear of gluten, dairy and refined sugar.
What I really like about this space is that it’s not super expensive, so you can eat healthy without breaking the bank. Breakfast starts at just R30 (for gluten and sugar-free banana bread that can be topped up with nut butter, fresh banana or chia seeds and cinnamon). You can also get a vegetarian wrap for under R50, or a smoothie bowl for just over R50. They also serve a variety of snacks like date balls, raw bars and seed snaps. Try the ginger and nut bites, they’re brilliant.
All the food is made using locally sourced, natural ingredients. Juices are freshly pressed and all the smoothies are made with in-house nut mylks (and yes, you can order these mylks in your coffee too). The idea is to show people that you can eat delicious food while eating healthy – they even serve a grain-free carrot cake with cashew icing. Yum!
Of course eating consciously also means being conscious of the environment. All their packaging is eco-friendly either made from biodegradable products, or 100% recyclable. Hopefully they will climb on the no-plastic wagon as well, though there are already plenty of plastic-free options.
I am really excited about this spot. I’ve popped in a couple of times and so far everything I have tasted is really delicious. I love the fact that they are making healthy food that is also environmentally conscious and affordable! I hope to see many more eateries and restaurants like these opening up in and around town.
