Each season holds a magical allure. As we move into the heart of winter, I’m eagerly waiting for those crisp afternoons when the streets glisten with fresh rain and the trees stand stark against a pale blue sky.
Those days when I can wrap myself up in a thick knit, snuggle under a warm blanket, and wait out the weather with a good book.
When I can find a warm fire, a decadent glass of wine and good company.
Over the last few weeks I have been introduced to an amazing selection of new fragrances. I have chosen four that each capture the essence of a winter afternoon in a different way.
I hope you find one you can fall in love with.
Alaïa Eau de Parfum Blanche
From R845, select department stores
Alaïa Eau de Parfum Blance was born during a trip to The Alhambra of Granada in Spain. Mr Alaïa was inspired by the geometric patterns in the Spanish medieval architecture, with stone screens and indented patterns separating the cool interiors from the outside, and light spreading across delicate marble slabs.
The fragrance is delicate, soft and utterly sensual. You’ll catch white florals, vanilla and musk, combined to create a radiant, creamy floral fragrance that wraps around you like a soft scarf. I adore it.
Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pure Eau de Toilette
From R875, select department stores
Issey Miyake has always been able to capture my attention with incredibly simplistic, sophisticated fragrances. L’Eau D’Issey Pure is like a raindrop landing on a soft white petal – light and refreshing.
For me it evokes those crystal clear winter afternoons, when thick rain clouds part to reveal an icy blue sky, and the sun catches the lingering drops on bare branches, sparkling like diamonds.
The fragrance can be described as aquatic and floral. It opens like a sea breeze before giving over to a floral heart with Neroli, Rose and Lily of the Valley. And finally it settles to ambergris and cashmere base notes.
Bulgari Splendida Iris D’Or Eau de Parfum
From R1 500, select department stores
Bulgari Splendida journeys to the heart of perfumeries most iconic flowers. Iris D’Or is as indulgent and luxurious as a silk shift softly draped over your skin.
The scent heroes the Iris flower, an iconic and regal bloom that has been associated with royalty since ancient Egypt. You will instantly catch green, sunny notes of raspberry and heliotrope before the fragrance opens to warm, seductive iris and mimosa at the heart, supported by decadent woody base notes of tonka bean, vetiver and sandalwood.
If you love powdery, floral scents you are sure to adore it.
Elizabeth Arden White Tea Eau de Toilette
From R695, select department stores
The latest launch from Elizabeth Arden is all about those quiet moments for yourself; when you can curl up on the couch under a warm blanket to enjoy a cup of tea and a good book. It’s about those simple, uncomplicated moments of quiet happiness.
I really love this scent. It is simplistic and delicate with refreshing top notes of mandarin, sage, and a slight saltiness like a sea breeze, followed by white tea extract and iris at the heart, and warm musk and tonka bean on the dry down.
It is a lovely choice for an everyday winter and spring scent.
