Your style guide to summer: Packing for the holidays

I can’t believe it’s already December. Not that I’m complaining! I’m literally counting down the days to the summer holidays. Daydreaming of lazy days spent at the beach (while I probably should be finishing up my work), I got to thinking about what I need to pack for the holidays. It all comes down to finding the balance between comfort and style (you’ve gotta both feel and look fabulous). Whether your holiday will also involve a beach mission, a small town visit or travelling to some exotic island, I’ve compiled a style guide of a few trendy holiday essentials to make sure you look on point during your travels.

Carry your load with a Net Bag from Mia Melange

R875, miamelange.com

Handmade from 100% locally sourced cotton, this net bag is not only durable, but can expand to fit all your much-needed items on your holiday trip. While super practical, which is a major bonus, I also love the simplistic look of this net bag which will compliment any outfit.

Languish in style with a Kelim from the Cotton Company

R420, thecottoncompany.co.za

Where stylish modern meets ancient-inspired elegance, this 100% Turkish cotton Kelim is gorgeous, as it is lightweight and functional. The fact that its 100% cotton means it’s super absorbent and quick-drying, making it the perfect towel for your seaside adventure or poolside tanning session. Just imagine sinking your face into the soft textured material. Sounds like pure bliss to me!

‘Step into summer” with pair of slim Havaianas

R299, superbalist.com

These OG Brazilian flip flops are a summer-must. Comfy and flexible, you can make your footprints anywhere in Havaianas, from hot pavement to a wave-crashing coastline. These lightweight and streamlined slops can also easily slip into your bag when you decide to swap for heels for your after-beach cocktail sundowners.

Look to the sun with a pair of Claire sunglasses from Freedom of Movement

R2 195, freedomofmovement.co.za

I fell in love with these FOM sunnies. A wellworth-it investment, these expertly crafted Italian sunglasses are not only trendy AF, but are comfy-wearing and will do their job and shade off those fiery sun rays.

Top off your holiday look with a vintage bucket hat from Almost Famous

R95, almostfamous.co.za

Hats are back, and I can’t help but adore these colour me crazy vintage hats. Perfect for a day spent on the beach or a vibey summer music festival, these bucket hats will not only protect your head, but will make you look darn cool.

Pull back your hair with a scrunchie from Almost Famous

R40, almostfamous.co.za

While I love to let my hair loose, sometimes it is just too darn hot to have it hanging in my face. A bold colour accent to offset your outfit, these super cute scrunchies are a great way to whip up your hair into a messy bun or tie half-back, without pulling it too tightly.

Bring your summer look together with a silk scarf from Desray

R280, desray.co.za

The silk scarf is making a major comeback this summer season — and with good reason. All you need to add a touch of elegance to your outfit, this light and summery silk scarf is on my holiday wishlist. And boy, are the styling options endless, from casually draping around your neck, tying back the hair or even hanging over your handbag as a fun accessory.

Look fresh with a wide leg jumpsuit from Mungo and Jemima

R1 250, mungoandjemima.com

A new summer favourite of mine, this light and breezy linen jumpsuit is perfect to stay crisp and cool as the heat sets in, while looking effortlessly trendy at the same time! While light dresses, shorts and plain white-t’s pretty much sums up my usual holiday wardrobe, there are always occasions to dress up and look stylish!
